Welcome to the Big Bear Valley!
Located in the San Bernardino Mountains and including Big Bear Lake, Big Bear City, Sugarloaf and Fawnskin.
This four-season mountain resort community got its name due to the grizzly bears that inhabited the area until 1908. Today the grizzlies are are gone but black bears still make an occasional appearance since their introduction in the 1930s.
Big Bear Lake is a mountain playground with many adventures to discover! The seven mile long lake is a reservoir fed by abundant snowfall each winter. Summer lake fun includes fishing, boating, jet skiing, water skiing, parasailing, kayaking, standup paddle boarding and more.
Mountain biking and hiking are very popular on hundreds of mountain trails surrounding the area. High altitude makes our valley a great place to train for sports. Extreme sports events are often hosted there, like the annual Kodiak Ultramarathon and the Amgen bike races.
Other family activities include horseback riding and ziplining, and the Discovery Center offers Music in the Mountains, educational nature trails, and natural history museum.
Winter sports enthusiasts love Snow Summit and Bear Mountain for world class skiing and snowboarding with outstanding half pipes and park features. Tubing is fun for all ages and available at multiple locations.
There are so many outdoor activities to choose from, you’ll need a little downtime at the end of the day. With over 300 sunny days annually you’ll get plenty of stunning lakeside sunsets and cool evenings looking at starry skies.
